Dal Santo has "had enough" of Thursday night footy

Former St Kilda midfielder Nick Dal Santo has “had enough” of Thursday night footy for one year.

Since Round 13, we’ve had a Thursday night game every week and the block of five games ends tonight with Adelaide and Geelong.

“Thank God it’s the last one. I’ve had enough of Thursday night football,” Dal Santo told SEN Breakfast.

“I like it as a feature every now and then. At the start of the year I don’t mind it, particularly with Carlton and Richmond starting the season, I just think it’s a bit much.

“When you have more days of football on than you have off, I just think the balance is out a little bit.”

Dal Santo said having the fixture every round takes away from the weekly footy discussion.

“I love the build-up to a weekend. I love reviewing a game and dissecting what happened, but I just feel because the cycle is so quick, I think it loses a little bit of its attachment at times,” he said.

“I feel like we don’t get to take a breath before we’re already talking about next week and as I said, I don’t mind it as a feature every now and then.”

SEN Breakfast host Jack Heverin still thinks there’s a place for Thursday night footy.

“One of the reasons I love it is I feel it removes that one game per week that happens that no one knows anything about because there’s double-ups and overlaps,” he said.

“It sort of removes one of those games out of that slot.

“I wouldn’t have it on a week where we have a Monday game. Leave it at four days.”

Adelaide will host Geelong at Adelaide Oval tonight in the last Thursday night game for the year.
