Australian football legend Tim Cahill has announced his retirement from international football.
Cahill made the announcement via his social media pages this morning.
“Today’s the day that I’m officially hanging up my boots on my international career with the Socceroos,” Cahill wrote on social media.
“No words can describe what it has meant to represent my country. Massive thank you to everyone for the support throughout all my years wearing the Australian badge.”
Cahill leaves the Socceroos as their greatest ever goal scorer, scoring 50 goals in 107 international caps.

Former Millwall and Everton star Cahill debuted for the Socceroos in 2004 before making his final appearance for his country as a second-half sub in the third World Cup group stage game against Peru in Russia late last month.
He scored numerous crucial goals throughout World Cup qualifying campaigns as well as finding the back of the net on the biggest stage on five occasions, including the first ever Aussie goal at a World Cup in 2006.
Cahill bows out of international football with an AFC Asian Cup winners' medal to his name as well as one of the greatest ever goals in World Cup history against Holland in 2014.
