AFL great Malcolm Blight has highlighted Brisbane’s recent revival proves the embattled Gold Coast Suns can still turn things around.
The Suns have endured another difficult season, sitting second last on the AFL ladder with out-of-contract co-captain Tom Lynch likely to leave the club at the end of the season.
Blight says all it takes is one successful draft for the expansion club to improve their on-field performances and build a core group of players who can carry the club into the future.
“18 months ago the Brisbane Football Club was forlorn and someone said they should shut the doors,” he told SEN’s Whateley.
“If you just get that right group of three or four youngsters with the three or four older players who are still around, you get that core of seven to eight and they’re starting to play some footy, they’ve won three in a row.
COULD THE SITUATION AT GOLD COAST GO FROM BAD TO "DIABOLICAL"?
I UNDERSTAND LYNCH’S CURRENT SITUATION: PRESTIA
“Will they win many more? Maybe, maybe not. But there’s actually some light there now and it doesn’t take much.
“One good draft really from Geelong, one good draft from Hawthorn and they became dominant teams with four or five players.
“It is not impossible to turn it around quickly.”
