St Kilda midfielder Jack Steele has highlighted his low Best and Fairest finish in 2017 as the motivating factor behind his improvement this season.
Steele has enjoyed a breakout year for the Saints averaging 21.8 disposals a game and has continued to be one of the fiercest tacklers in the competition averaging an impressive 6.7 tackles per match.
“I was a little bit angry with last year and where I finished in the B&F,” he told SEN Afternoons.
“This year I’ve just been trying to improve my game step by step, game by game.
“Improving my running and disposal efficiency is just some of the little things I’ve been working on to get myself higher in the B&F.
“Not that it really matters, it’s irrelevant the B&F, it’s just about playing good footy as a team at the end of the day but it is motivation and I have been trying to work towards a better finish.
“But yeah it was certainly a bit of motivation to improve.”
The former Giant had a shaky start to the season but has thrived in his rejuvenation as a tagger.
