Money is a positive for Kangaroos says Atley

2018-07-20T11:31+10:00

North Melbourne’s Shaun Atley says it’s good the club has a slew of salary cap space, as the Kangaroos continue their search for a marquee acquisition.

The latest player to be linked to Arden Street is Port Adelaide’s Jared Polec, with SEN’s Sam McClure reporting the Roos are offering him up to $700,000 per season.

While not commenting on individual players, Atley said having money to spend is a positive for the club.

NORTH'S POLEC OFFER IRRESPONSIBLE SAYS CORNES

“It’s good we have got that money because we need some good players to come in and help us if we want to get to the next level,” he told SEN Mornings.

“It’s only going to help us in the long run if we can get those sort of calibre players.”

Atley also said he would “love” to play with his brother Joe, but acknowledged he is enjoying himself at the Power.

North faces Collingwood in a crunch battle at the MCG tomorrow afternoon, and with the returning Mason Cox, it’s unknown where Brad Scott will deploy Majak Daw.

After spending majority of the season in defence, Daw impressed as a forward last week, booting four goals, and Atley says he wouldn’t mind seeing him line up in the attacking zone again.

“He played that well up forward, so I would like to see him up forward, I can just kick it up in the air for him and he can go get it,” he said.

“It’s awesome for him. I suppose over the years he has had blokes who have knocked him, so it’s good for him to get a praise now because he does work very hard out on the track.”
