At quarter time, Sydney had six goals to their name, the Suns had one and all seemed to be going to script.
Then, Gold Coast kept them goalless for two quarters, while kicking eight themselves, and held the Swans off in the last to pick up their fourth win of the season.
Here's everything you need to know!
The Moment: Lachie Weller kicks the sealer
The Suns and Weller received nothing but criticism after they gave up pick two for Fremantle midfielder and Queenslander Lachie Weller.
He'd averaged 20 disposals per game coming into today, but his running goal late in the fourth quarter gave the Suns a 21-point lead and put it beyond reach of Sydney.
He gathered 23 disposals, took seven marks and kicked two goals - both crucial - in what was his best performance so far as a Sun.
Melbourne captain Daisy Pearce loved the story.
"He's copped so much criticism and games like this will shake that tag. He kicked two running goals and that's what you want to see him doing," Pearce said.

The Talking Point: The Suns beat Sydney for the first time ever
Yes, you read that correctly.
Coming into today, the Suns had never even gotten within 30 points of Sydney in their history as a club.
They were the better team after quarter time and earned the victory.
What’s next?
Sydney will take on Essendon next Friday night at Etihad Stadium and will be hoping to find form similar to their last appearance at the venue against North Melbourne a fortnight ago.
Gold Coast meanwhile have a chance to pick up their fifth win of the season when they take on Carlton at Metricon Stadium.
