Brayshaw contract extension close: Melbourne GM

2018-07-23T08:40+10:00

Melbourne head of football Josh Mahoney has revealed that in-form midfielder Angus Brayshaw is inching closer to signing a new deal with the club.

Brayshaw is out of contract at the end of the season with The Herald Sun reporting yesterday that North Melbourne are interested in bringing the 22-year-old to Arden Street.

But Mahoney quashed any speculation the young Demon intends to leave the club, saying that he hasn’t showed any indication of the sort.

“I’m sure everyone will be into Angus (Brayshaw) at the moment,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“We’re really happy with how it’s going at the moment. We both decided that we wanted to see him play a little bit more football until mid-season with his management and us.

“To Angus’s credit he’s performed the way we thought he would when we took him so high in the draft and it’s probably worked in his favour holding off on this occasion.

“We’re really happy with how it’s going and I don’t think it’s too far away from getting something done there.

“He’s only said really good things about staying at Melbourne which is a positive sign.”

Taken at pick three in the 2014 National Draft, Brayshaw has enjoyed a break out season, averaging 27 disposals per game and enjoying some much need continuity after playing just two games in 2017 due to a series of concussions.
