Buckley admits Magpies have met with Lynch

2018-07-24T06:19+10:00

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has confirmed he has met with out of contract Gold Coast spearhead Tom Lynch.

The Magpies are reported to be one of three teams, along with Richmond and Hawthorn, to be chasing Lynch’s services, and Buckley has admitted conversations have been had between the two parties.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“Yes, a while back,” Buckley told Channel Nine’s Footy Classified, when asked if he has met with Lynch.

“I think to be transparent, I think more clubs these days are very proactive about improving their lists and about wanting to give themselves the best chance to contend, not just in this season but in seasons beyond.

“Tom Lynch is a player that I can see fitting into our structure really well and making us a better team, so if that’s an indication of our interest in him, well then so be it.

“We make no apologies for being a club that wants to be as competitive as we possibly can in the future.

“We understand there’s other clubs that are going about their business in the same manner.

“I’m not going to give you blow-by-blows, but needless to say we wouldn’t have been the only club.”

Last week, Suns coach Stuart Dew said it isn’t looking “great”, when asked about his hopes of keeping Lynch at the club.

It’s also been reported the Pies have interest in Gold Coast’s other co-captain, defender Steven May.
