Hinkley fires back at Power critics

2018-07-24T09:41+10:00

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has fired back at criticism his club has received, saying experts are sitting in ‘easy’ spots to critique the club.

Paul Roos told Fox Footy’s On The Couch the Power have been “almost the biggest underachieving footy team”, a comment Hinkley responded vehemently to.

SEN’s Whateley with Gerard Whateley can be heard Monday-Thursday 9-12am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here

“It’s an easy spot to sit and make those sort of calls,” Hinkley told SEN’s Whateley.

“We are not hiding away from the fact that we wish we were doing better than what we have been in the last five years.

“In my six years, well certainly in the first five years, we have made the finals a number of times, made a prelim final, we haven’t been able to complete the task, we haven’t probably been as good as the best teams in the competition in any of those years.

“We have had a couple of disappointing seasons, there is no doubt about that, but that’s an opinion of Paul’s, one which I respect but one I don’t take too much notice of.”

Melbourne great Garry Lyon told SEN Breakfast Port Adelaide’s whinging to the umpires was “over the top” during the weekend’s loss to GWS, another claim Hinkley watered down.

“I don’t think so,” the Power coach said.

“It’s an amazing thing to say from Garry Lyon who is not out on the field with the players.

“I don’t think there is any doubt in any team that there is disappointment within players and within decisions and within moments.

“I don’t think we are over the top in that place.

“If we thought we were, we would be trying to do something about that.”

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.
