Geelong seeking “revenge” after previous Richmond defeat: Dangerfield

2018-07-31T13:30+10:00

Geelong star Patrick Dangerfield says being able to play four full quarters will be the focus if they are to avenge their narrow defeat to Richmond earlier this season.

The Tigers prevailed by 18 points in a bruising encounter in Round 13 and they also got the better of the Cats in last year’s qualifying final on their way to winning the premiership.

Dangerfield spoke of the unique challenges the reigning premiers present and Friday night's clash has been a fixture Geelong have been steeling themselves for.

“The challenge of Richmond is the importance of playing out four quarters of footy,” he told SEN’s Whateley.

“We challenged last time we played them, but the challenge is to be switched on, not only for all four quarters, but Richmond are very good at scoring in the last three to five minutes of a quarter.

“They just pick their moments and we have to make sure we nullify them and don’t allow their little mosquito fleet up forward to retain the ball in their forward line.

“They play the MCG so well and we obviously know where finals are played.

“They’re a different prospect, their forward line is certainly unique because they almost defend the ball into their forward line and they’ve got a real plethora of stars across their lines.

“In the forefront of our mind has been that Richmond challenge and we were dirty the last time we played them, we didn’t accept the honourable loss or however you want to label it.

“We’re back for revenge.”

Richmond are currently in the midst of a record breaking 18 match winning streak at the MCG and sit a game clear at the top of the ladder.

Geelong occupy eighth spot in a log-jam of clubs vying for a finals spot.
