The Wrap Up: Adelaide steals Showdown in controversial finish

2018-08-04T19:14+10:00

They did it again. For the second time this year, the Showdown has delivered an incredible contest as Adelaide edge ahead 23-22 in the head-to-head battles.

A controversial goal with two minutes on the clock from Josh Jenkins put the Crows in front and put a dent in their crosstown rival’s chances of finishing in the top four.

Can we have a Showdown every week next year please? Can we trial that?

Here's everything you need to know!

The Moment: Josh Jenkins makes his grandmother proud

With two minutes left on the clock, Jenkins snapped a goal that put the Crows in front. The crowd went wild, his teammates went wild… but he didn’t.

The goal umpire wasn’t so sure either and even though he thought it was a goal, he called for the score review.

In the end, the camera angle was unable to prove beyond doubt that it had hit the post and so the goal stood.

And the Crows won – significantly hindering Port’s top four hopes.

Jenkins told Fox Footy after the game, that he still thinks the winner hit the post.

“My grandma raised me not to tell fibs. I think it hit the post,” Jenkins told Fox Footy.

What’s next?

Port Adelaide faces the team that eliminated them from last year's finals series in West Coast. The final went into extra time where a Luke Shuey goal sunk the Power at Adelaide Oval and now they’ll have a chance to avenge that loss. A loss could end their chances of a top four finish.

Adelaide can’t make finals, but they can play the spoiler. They face GWS in Canberra next weekend and while that is a daunting task, they could provide a hiccup for the in-form Giants.
