Neville Bruns calls for 12 month ban for Andrew Gaff

2018-08-07T09:35+10:00

In a revealing interview on SEN's Whateley, former Geelong player Neville Bruns – who suffered a broken jaw at the hands of AFL Legend Leigh Matthews – has called for a 12 month ban on Andrew Gaff for his punch on Andrew Brayshaw.

“Anybody who does a king hit like that has to get a minimum of 12 months off his career, and he can sit on the sidelines and think about what he’s done.

“Guys have been rubbed out in other leagues, country leagues – they’ve have been given hefty bans, life bans. I don’t even know what the longest sentence would be at AFL/VFL level.

“We deserve to deal out a very very hefty penalty. I feel sorry for Andrew Gaff but I feel it has to be done.

“Words still resonate in my ear. When I went to the hospital [after being punched by Matthews] to have x-rays done…[the doctor] said ‘Jeez you’re lucky.’”

“I said ‘what do you mean?’”

“’He said ‘where the impact was, you were half an inch away from your temple’.

“'That force', he said, 'if that’d hit you in the temple, you wouldn’t have come out of it.’

“That really shook me.

“I think you gotta realise, with Andrew Brayshaw, the same thing couldn’t easily happened.”

“We’re trying to get rid of that one punch thing.

“People die from it.”

Andrew Gaff has chosen to fly to Melbourne to face the AFL Tribunal tonight.
