Pickering rubbishes Brereton’s criticism of Ablett

2018-08-07T16:40+10:00

Gary Ablett’s agent, Liam Pickering, has slammed Dermott Brereton after his criticism of the Geelong champion on Friday night.

Brereton called out Ablett after the Cats’ narrow three-point loss to Richmond, claiming he was avoiding body contact when he took his missed shot for goal in the dying stages of the contest.

Pickering hit back at the Hawthorn great, saying the two-time Brownlow Medallist has been unfairly singled out for criticism all season.

“I couldn’t disagree more,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“What was he expected to do? Run at the bloke and get smothered? It made no sense.

“I love Dermott (Brereton), but fair go.

“I think that’s rubbish, I think that’s complete rubbish.

“He is one of the strong reasons they got back into it in the last quarter, like he was against Melbourne.

“We’re having this year where one week we love him (Ablett) and the next week we are just going to lay the boots in, it’s been going on all year from a lot of people.

“That was a cheap shot at a champion of the game who missed a kick at goal.

“It wasn’t because he was running away from goal, he was running on a 45 degree where he got the handball.”
