Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin has provided an update on Jack Viney’s troublesome toe injury.

Viney was a late out in the Demons’ Round 17 clash with the Western Bulldogs and the co-captain is yet to return to the senior side.

Despite the lingering toe ailment, Goodwin has allayed fears Viney’s playing future could be compromised.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“We certainly haven’t got fears about his long term future,” Goodwin told SEN Breakfast.

“We got Aaron vandenBerg back after a year-and-a-half out of the game with similar type feet issues.

“We certainly don’t have any fears in that regard.

“We just want to get him back healthy, and that’s sort of been really cautious throughout this year about his progress.

“The key thing is trying to get rid of that stress in his toe.

“We were always going to give him two-to-three weeks of deload.

“We tried to get him going after two weeks, he had a really light session on the Alter G (anti-gravity treadmill) two weeks ago and was still a little bit sore, so we continued the plan of deloading him.

“He has had a really positive week this week, he started to reload again and he is feeling pretty good about it.

“We are excited to get him back.”
