Could Walker escape suspension for Kelly sling tackle?

2018-08-13T09:15+10:00

Tim Watson believes Adelaide captain Taylor Walker could avoid suspension for his sling tackle on Greater Western Sydney star Josh Kelly.

Kelly was left in a daze after his head was slammed into the ground following Walker’s tackle in the last quarter of Saturday night's encounter, with the Giants midfielder taking no further part in the match.

Essendon great Watson thinks the tackle that left the 23-year-old with a bout of concussion is “right on the edge”.

“I thought he tried to release him in the tackle, if you watch it really closely frame-by-frame,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.

“Then he looked at him as if to say: ‘gee, have I gone too far with that tackle?'. Which he probably did.

“I actually thought it was right on the edge and you only had to look at the players out there at the time, there was a delayed reaction to what he’d done.

“So I don’t know whether the players actually thought it was outside the rules of the game.”

Walker will learn his fate this afternoon when Match Review Officer Michael Christian makes a decision on the incident.
