Report: St Kilda set for boardroom upheaval

2018-08-16T07:20+10:00

St Kilda is set for boardroom upheaval with president Peter Summers under increasing pressure to retain his position.

According to a report in the Herald Sun, club director Andrew Bassat and former CEO Jim Watts are both being backed by members of the Saints’ board to replace Summers.

A source close to the club revealed that Summers’ position has become “untenable” after five years in the top job.

Bassat is the chief executive of Seek and the brother of AFL commissioner, Paul Bassat, while Watts had two stints as the club’s CEO while also fulfilling the role as vice-president under Rod Butters.

The Saints have had a nightmare 2018 campaign, currently languishing in 15th position with just four and a half wins after being tipped to push for a finals berth.

Former captain, Nick Riewoldt, told Fox Footy the club is in “a dire situation", while veteran AFL journalist, Caroline Wilson, told Sportsday things are "about to erupt" off the field at the Saints.

On the back of four straight defeats, the Saints take on Hawthorn in the Blue Ribbon Cup at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
