Could Carlton inquire about Roughead?

2018-08-16T15:28+10:00

SEN Afternoons host Andy Maher believes it’s possible Carlton could reach out to Hawthorn captain Jarryd Roughead.

The veteran forward has expressed his desire to play on next year and Maher said he expects the Blues to ask the question at the very least.

“Jarryd Roughead’s an interesting one. It completely depends on Hawthorn,” he said on SEN Afternoons.

“We know he wants to play on and I’m sure he wants to continue to play his footy at Hawthorn and he’s contracted to do that.

“I wouldn’t mind betting that somewhere along the line, a conversation has taken place between people at Carlton and Roughead’s people.

“I wouldn’t mind betting a conversation's taken place there somewhere along the line.”

Hawthorn is one of three teams linked to out-of-contract Gold Coast forward Tom Lynch and Maher believes that could be a factor in the Roughead decision.

“The biggest fish of them all is Tom Lynch, it would make even more sense if Hawthorn felt they had Tom Lynch’s signature, then you can understand why they would be keen to have a serious conversation with Jarryd Roughead,” Maher added.

Maher voiced how he thinks the conversation with Roughead’s management would go down.

“'Listen, just in case, we’d be derelict if we didn’t ask the question and if things aren’t as rosy at the Hawks and if Clarkson is looking to do the offload thing (like he did with Jordan Lewis and Sam Mitchell)',” he said.
