Richmond lose key duo for Essendon clash

2018-08-16T11:27+10:00

Richmond captain Trent Cotchin and key defender David Astbury have both been ruled out of Friday night’s clash against Essendon.

Cotchin is suffering from hamstring soreness, while Astbury has an Achilles complaint.

The Tigers are already without midfield duo Dion Prestia (hamstring) and Kane Lambert (ankle) for the meeting with the Bombers.

Coach Damien Hardwick says the club won't be taking any chances with finals on the horizon.

"Once again, we'll assess these things as we go along," Hardwick told richmondfc.com.au

"We're probably at the situation at the moment, coming into the pointy end that we'll take a conservative approach with those players that need it.

"We've still got to settle on our best side. We've still got to get those players available and playing their best footy, so there's always something riding on (the remaining matches).

"Our guys are a very proud group, very process driven, so we take the scoreboard out of it, so to speak, so they'll come out and play their best footy."
