Why Jacobs wouldn’t attract rival interest: Wallace

2018-08-16T14:22+10:00

Australian Football Hall of Famer Terry Wallace thinks there wouldn’t be a lot of interest in North Melbourne’s Ben Jacobs, if his services became available.

Jacobs is in the final year of his current contract and has played just one game since Round 12 due to a lingering concussion problem.

While acknowledging Jacobs’ talent, Wallace believes the current climate of midfielders, along with the health issues facing the 26-year-old, creates a formula that wouldn’t entice rival clubs.

SEN Afternoons with Andy Maher can be heard Monday-Friday 12-3pm, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“I don’t think there would be a lot of interest at all,” Wallace told SEN Afternoons.

“I really respect him but I just don’t think clubs set themselves after a tagging type player.

“Number one, he is not getting out on the park, so it’s the double, we go after the more pure ball winning player, more so than the tagger and the tagger hasn’t been on the ground, I don’t think there would be great interest.

“I think he will stay where he is and he will stay probably at a lesser rate than what he needs to be on because the conversation would be, we haven’t been able to get you on the park, we haven’t had a lot of use out of you over the past 18 months, we have supported you, you’ve come to a second club, we have given you every opportunity.

“I think this is the way it would play out.”
