“I felt like a 80-90 year-old”: Howe opens up on corkie

2018-08-17T14:22+10:00

Collingwood’s Jeremy Howe has opened up on the troublesome corkie that has left him out of the Magpies’ team since Round 20.

Howe suffered the ailment in the Pies’ Round 19 clash with Richmond, and started running today for the first time after minor surgery.

The 28-year-old stopped short of announcing a return date, but reassured that progress has been made.

“To say I was going to be running today, I didn’t think I would be,” Howe told SEN Afternoons.

“That was to see how it was going, I’ve got a scheduled session tomorrow morning and then train Tuesday and train Thursday.

“It’s a matter of whether they think I’ve done enough, it won’t be due to the fact I’ll be restricted in that aspect in terms of pain and restricted movement.

“It’s more if they think I’ve got enough under my belt to be able to play.

“Given the time off, it’s almost been a month since my last game by that stage.”

Howe also explained how debilitating the corkie to his leg was.

“Given the significance of the contusion, the collection built up to a stage where it didn’t calcify but it got to a stage where it didn’t really go anywhere,” he said.

“The collection was half the size of a fist in my quad.

“The restricted movement, I couldn’t run, I couldn’t kick.

“People said why didn’t I have surgery earlier, you got to give it every chance to heal naturally and it just wasn’t the case.

“I went into surgery, had it removed, and I was able to run today.

“The significant relief and release it had given me, I’m in a lot better state now than I was in the last three weeks.

“Every day I felt like a 80-90 year-old. I was limping to the bathroom, I couldn’t sleep without pain killers and I was having inflamms all day, every day.”
