Lockett and Huddo's hilarious boundary rider story

2018-08-17T18:01+10:00

Anthony Hudson has recalled a hilarious story about Tony Lockett back in 2001 when the AFL legend was working as a boundary rider for Channel Seven.

Hudson, with Lockett on the line, told the story of how Plugger went above and beyond in his match-day duties.

“(Lockett) did a final for Seven at the MCG, it was Richmond and Carlton in 2001, and Steven Silvagni pulled a hamstring off the bone,” Hudson explained on SEN’s The Thing About Football.

“Plugger was doing boundary, they cross down to him and he said ‘I’m not sure, I think he’s done a hamstring’.

“So they’ve loaded him onto the stretcher and every other boundary rider would’ve said he’s on the stretcher, but you actually went up to him on the stretcher and because it was you, SOS actually answered the questions!”

Lockett himself remembers his time working in the footy media and how he approached it with his own unique style.

“Paul Roos used to turn up with an encyclopedia of information and I’d turn up and I don’t even think I had a bit of paper,” Lockett said.

“They’re telling me you’ve got to be there three hours before the start of the game mate, come on, you can’t be serious! As long as you’re there 15 minutes before, you’re alright, aren’t you?”

Hudson went on to explain Lockett would get up and leave as soon as a game would end, not sticking around for the post-game coverage.

“I was out of there like a rabbit shot up the backside!” Plugger said

“You’ve just got to do your job and get out of there!” he added.
