Injured Demons skipper Viney will be “cherry ripe” for first final: Goodwin

2018-08-20T11:29+10:00

Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin is confident co-captain Jack Viney will be ready to go for the club’s first final.

Viney has been restricted to just seven games this season and hasn’t played since Round 16 as he continues to recover from a persistent toe injury.

Goodwin says the midfielder will train with the main group this week with one eye on being fit for the Demons’ first finals apperance since 2006.

“He’s travelling really positively,” Goodwin told SEN’s Whateley.

“He’s really ramped up his training, he’s progressing really strongly and he had a spring in his step after the game last night, I’ll give you the hot tip.

“His whole preparation has been around getting right for the first final, so that hasn’t changed.

“He’ll continue to build his loads, he’ll join the main group this week and get another two weeks of training.

“He’ll be cherry ripe to go.”

The Dees take on Greater Western Sydney this Sunday afternoon at the MCG as they look to build on their stirring interstate victory over West Coast.
