Should Melbourne entertain the thought of trading Jesse Hogan?

2018-08-20T12:28+10:00

David King has suggested that Melbourne should look at potentially trading star forward Jesse Hogan if the appropriate deal was forthcoming.

Hogan is contracted until the end of 2019 and has insisted he is not contemplating returning home to Perth, despite being constantly linked with a move to Fremantle.

North Melbourne great King believes the Demons’ forward line could function just as efficiently without the 23-year-old and has posed the question as to whether a first round pick could tempt the Dees into doing business.

“I just wonder if you’ve got a player (Jesse Hogan) on your list who’s pretty much kicked two goals a game for the best part of four years, and you’re offered pick six or seven as a trade opportunity at the end of this year whether you would look at it?” King told SEN’s Whateley.

“If Fremantle wanted Hogan this year, given what you have already seen so far through the course of 2018, what you know about Jesse and what you know about Sam Weideman and what we saw on the weekend, would you look at it? Would you take it?

“Would you take the opportunity and say: ‘you know what, every time you come out of contract this is going to be a discussion and you’re going to get bigger offers than what you’ve had already’.

“The go-home factor, is it something Melbourne need to look at?

“In a mature sense it’s a business now, you’ve got to sell high and buy low.

“I just think when you look at what Jake Melksham has done at full-forward, maybe it’s a small industry at full-forward now?

“Maybe you don’t necessarily need three guys that are 6’5 running around in your forward line anymore.

“I think Melbourne will look at it at the end of the year.”

Hogan will miss the remainder of the season due to a serious foot injury.
