Sydney coach gives St Kilda clip over Hannebery pursuit

Sydney coach John Longmire says he would rather not talk about contracted players, whether they are at his club or not.

St Kilda’s general manager of football, Simon Lethlean, recently confirmed that he had spoken to the management of contracted Swan Dan Hannebery regarding a possible move to the Saints in the trade period.

Longmire addressed the situation on SEN’s Time On with Sam McClure and admitted that the Swans would not take a similar tact in any of their own trade pursuits.

“Every club has got their own agendas,” Longmire said.

“As coach of the Sydney Swans, I don’t really comment on our players in or out of contract and particularly other club’s players (who are) in or out of contract.

“It’s not something I personally do and (Hannebery) as a contracted player, I’d rather it didn’t happen.

“But I don’t have control on what other clubs do and don’t do in the media sense.”

McClure also quizzed Longmire on the future of veteran defender Heath Grundy, who has taken some time away from the game to focus on his mental wellbeing.

Asked if we will see Grundy again this season, Longmire said: “I think we do.

“When I mentioned he was having a couple of weeks off, he continued to train, he played in the reserves on the weekend, and got through ok.

“We are not sure just yet whether it will be this week or not. We’ll have a look at Hawthorn and weigh up what we do this week.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw him back playing.”

The Swans host their fierce rivals the Hawks at the SCG on Saturday night with the winner securing a top-four position.
