Lyon and Watson have their say on Ben Cousins' latest charges

2018-08-23T11:55+10:00

Melbourne great Garry Lyon believes Ben Cousins’ latest offences are indefensible and jail is where he needs to be.

Cousins faced court yesterday and was charged with possession of a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply, along with other offences as well as threats to kill his former partner.

“He needs to be in jail,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“I know we can have sympathy for him, but when you’re threatening partners with their life, you’ve got 13 grams of meth with intent to sell or supply and with his history having not long been in jail.

“Sadly, it’s where he needs to be.”

Essendon champion Tim Watson agreed.

“It’s one thing to be self-destructive but when you start to be destructive and you start and threaten to tear apart a family in the physical sense then there is only one place for you,” Watson added.

"You do have to be locked away.”

Cousins was denied bail yesterday after his application was rejected.

The 40-year-old was released from prison in January this year and had been working back at the Eagles as part of his parole condition.
