Report: Saints President Summers steps down

2018-08-24T15:13+10:00

St Kilda President Peter Summers has stepped down from his position, according to the Herald Sun.

It is one of the biggest changes in an expected overhaul of the embattled Saints.

The report states Summers is making way for board member Andrew Bassat, with the move ratified at a board meeting last night.

Summers took over from Greg Westaway at the end of the 2013, and is leaving 12 months before his tenure was scheduled to end.

Bassat is the chief executive of SEEK, and is the brother of AFL commissioner, Paul. It’s expected his promotion will be made official at an AGM in December, while Summers’ departure could be announced as early as this weekend.

A St Kilda spokesperson told the Herald Sun, “The board of the St Kilda Football Club has been working through a thorough process regarding succession planning for the role of president. That process remains ongoing.”
