Carlton "would be an awesome" destination says number one prospect

2018-08-27T06:44+10:00

Potential number one overall draft pick prospect Sam Walsh says he would love to join Carlton if they were to take him.

The Geelong Falcons midfielder has had an incredible year, being named in his side’s bests on 13 different occasions.

“I love watching players like Patrick Cripps and Charlie Curnow and the way they go about it so it would be an awesome club to be at, they look like they’re going in a pretty good direction,” Walsh told Future Stars.

“I don’t think when you step into a club, what number you’re drafted matters if you’re willing to embrace it.”

The classy midfielder said he would like to model his game on GWS star Josh Kelly.

“I think the one that stands out is Josh Kelly, I love the way he goes about it,” he said.

“The way he reads the game, his decision making and his run and ability to find the footy.”

Future Stars panellist and AFL draft expert Callum Twomey obviously agrees, describing Walsh’s game as similar to that of Kelly and Richmond captain Trent Cotchin.

Walsh, a Brisbane supporter, says he has kept an eye on the ladder to see where his team would fall and whether he’d be in the draft range.

“Obviously I love watching my AFL footy and you do keep a close eye on the ladder at times, but it’s nothing you can control so I usually just like following the Lions and a few other teams as well,” he said.
