“Big Victorian club” has enquired about Power star Chad Wingard

2018-08-28T07:58+10:00

Herald Sun journalist Sam Edmund has revealed a big Victorian club has enquired about the availability of Port Adelaide star Chad Wingard.

Wingard had a disappointing season for the Power by his lofty standards, booting 22 goals - his second lowest tally since his debut season in 2012, and averaging 20.8 disposals a game.

The 25-year-old is contracted until the end of 2019, but Edmund says that hasn’t stopped one Melbourne based club from potentially looking at acquiring the services of the two-time All-Australian.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“Watch this space on Chad Wingard,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“He’s contracted at the Power for next year after the big deal he signed a few years ago.

“I heard this morning that one big, big Victorian club has enquired about Chad Wingard, specifically about acquiring his medical reports.

PORT "OBLIGATED" TO TRADE CHAD, SAYS KING

“They’re a big player in the game, so wait and see what happens there with Chad Wingard.

“It obviously depends on whether Port Adelaide are open to trading him.”

Melbourne great Garry Lyon believes if Port decided to move on Wingard, it would show a new-found ruthlessness that has been missing in the club’s DNA for some time.

“If they did that that would make them a ruthless football club,” Lyon said.

“That would show a ruthless side to a club that aspires to ruthlessness, but hasn’t quite got there.”

Taken with pick six in the 2011 draft, Wingard has played 147 games and booted 232 goals for the Power.
