“It’s been my priority all along to stay in Sydney”: Lloyd

2018-08-30T13:55+10:00

Sydney defender Jake Lloyd has revealed his priority is to remain at the club as talks over a new contract continue.

Lloyd is out of contract at the end of this season and has previously stated he is in no rush to sign a new deal with the Swans.

Gold Coast has emerged as an interested party in signing the 24-year-old, but Lloyd says he wants to stay in the Harbour City and that negotiations between his manager and the club are progressing well.

“I certainly hope so (to stay at Sydney),” Lloyd told SEN Afternoons.

“It’s been my priority all along to stay in Sydney so it’s obviously something that doesn’t just happen in one-to-two weeks, it takes time.

“I’m pretty comfortable with where things sit at the moment.

“Things are certainly a lot closer now than they probably were earlier in the piece.

“That’s just what happens with contracts these days, I’m happy with where I stand right now.

“I’m playing good footy and my manager (Alex McDonald) and the club are certainly going back and forward regularly and things are getting a lot closer.”

Lloyd has enjoyed a career-best season for the Bloods, averaging a tick over 28 disposals a game and earning a spot in the initial All-Australian squad of 40.
