Sam Mitchell’s Hawks return “almost inevitable”

2018-08-31T06:46+10:00

Sam Mitchell’s return to Hawthorn as an assistant coach is “almost inevitable”, according to Sam Edmund from the Herald Sun.

Mitchell has worked with West Coast’s midfield this season as an assistant, but has indicated his desire to return to Melbourne.

Prior to joining the Eagles in 2017, Mitchell was the former captain of the Hawks, while winning five club best and fairest awards, and four premierships. Now, it seems a reunion is likely.

“It’s almost inevitable that he (Mitchell) is going to link back up with Alastair Clarkson at Hawthorn,” Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“I’m hearing that’s just going to happen. He will keep his currency there for the near future and possibly the next vacancy.”

Edmund also added a partnership with Clarkson could be Mitchell’s next step to becoming a senior coach.

“Luke Beveridge, Damien Hardwick, Leon Cameron, Adam Simpson…so many have gone onto the senior ranks having done their stuff at Hawthorn,” Edmund said.
