Dahlhaus departure “hurts” says former Dogs captain

Former Western Bulldogs captain Bob Murphy says Luke Dahlhaus departure “hurts”.

Murphy praised Dahlhaus’ influence at the Bulldogs, especially during their 2016 premiership run, which adds to the disappointment that the two parties couldn’t come to terms on a new agreement.

“It’s one of those ones that hurts a bit to be honest,” Murphy told SEN Breakfast.

“When I think of it, the thought of him playing in another jumper hurts me a little bit.

“You never like to see any player leave and you know what it’s like. You’d think after a few years you get used to it but every year players leave or get delisted and every year it would sort of hit with a bit of a thud.

“Then there is a different ones, players who are heart and soul, and Luke was a heart and soul sort of player.

“On one sense, it’s hard to believe after where he was and the club was two years ago to now, it’s gone separate ways.

“Because it’s sort of been on the cards all this year and seems to be really contract based, I’m not shocked because we have been conditioned for it.”

Dahlhaus averaged 21.5 disposals per game this season, his lowest rate since 2013.
