Murphy: "My gut feeling Melbourne will absolutely smash Geelong"

2018-09-06T11:12+10:00

Bob Murphy has always been one to veer from the conventional means of analysis and he feels we could be heading for a Demon domination during Friday night’s Elimination Final.

The last two times Melbourne has faced Geelong, they were defeated in last-second thrillers, but Murphy has spent time at Gosch’s Paddock this week and has a funny feeling.

“This is not to upset any of the analysis and we all go to school on working out patterns and reading the form guides, this sits adjacent to that,” Murphy told SEN’s Whateley.

“This is just that gut feel reaction that you have that maybe you’re hesitant to talk publicly about, but you hold onto it nonetheless. It’s the thing that if it happens, you kind of feel like it might happen.

“I interviewed Max Gawn during the week at the Melbourne Football Club and I don’t know what happened, there was no one moment, but I left the interview and I just had this overwhelming gut feeling Melbourne will absolutely smash Geelong in the first quarter.

“I just left going, they’re right in the sweet spot. They’re going to obliterate them.

“An opening quarter sort of demolition job. That’s my gut feeling.

“I just feel the Demons will blow them out of the water. Then the whole world changes.”

SEN Chief Broadcaster Gerard Whateley has a similar gut feel, but isn’t sure which team will destroy the other.

“My gut feel and I’ve declined to say this all week. I don’t think Melbourne and Geelong will be close,” he said.

“I think it will be a whacking and I don’t know which way. It’s just a gut feel.

“We’ll spend our whole time thinking this’ll go down to the last minute of the last quarter, but my gut feel is it will be over early.”
