“Determined” Demons solely focused on Hawks

Melbourne are not over-celebrating their Elimination Final win over Geelong, with the club shifting its focus solely to this week’s battle with Hawthorn.

The Demons and Hawks clash in a Semi-Final at the MCG this Friday night, and Aaron vandenBerg has explained how quickly the playing group moved on from the excitement surrounding the drought-breaking finals victory over the Cats.

“This group is very determined, we are not getting ahead of ourselves, we know how difficult it can be playing such good teams at this time of the year,” he told SEN’s Whateley.

“One thing I have noticed that’s impressing about this young group is there was probably a little bit of excitement post-game and the next day, but as soon as we came back to the club, it was mind on the job.

“That’s coming down from the coaching staff and the leaders through to the playing group.

“We are very confident at the moment but also very aware of what we need to do.”

Coach Simon Goodwin echoed vandenBerg’s sentiments.

“As a club, that’s what we have been trying to build our team towards, about playing a brand of footy but also building a group of players that are built for that style of game,” he told SEN’s Crunch Time.

“With that experience (on Friday night), there is even more belief that is what they’re capable of.

“At the same time, the players are very measured and understand that’s one week of what we actually want to do this year.

“Our mindset shifted pretty quickly towards Hawthorn.”
