How can Saints secure Hannebery in trade?

2018-09-12T06:52+10:00

St Kilda may have some issues acquiring the services of Sydney’s Dan Hannebery, due to the Saints’ lack of draft picks this year.

Hannebery has reportedly requested a trade from the Swans, with St Kilda in prime position to pick up the three-time All-Australian.

With three years remaining on his current deal, the two clubs will have to strike a trade for Hannebery, and there could be some roadblocks in doing so.

“The issue is how the heck can St Kilda get him in,” the Herald Sun’s Sam Edmund told SEN Breakfast.

“They’re not going to use pick three on him, they don’t have a second round pick, and their next pick isn’t until the third round.

“They’ve got one pick in the first three rounds, one of their leanest draft periods in a long time.

“It’s going to have to be something like that (a future pick) but will Sydney be willing to take a future pick for a guy in his prime?

“I know he is banged up but he hasn’t had a pre-season this year.”

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

Former Essendon captain Tim Watson thinks the Swans might be willing to take on a 2019 selection, as they’re likely to get father-son prospect Nick Blakey in this year’s draft.

Watson also labelled Hannebery an “asterisk” player, considering his recent drop in form and injury issues.

Hannebery averaged just 18.7 disposals per game this season.
