The Hawk who had a "bitterly disappointing" finals series

2018-09-17T07:36+10:00

Garry and Lyon and Tim Watson believe Hawthorn will be “bitterly disappointed” with the performance of star forward Luke Breust this finals series.

Breust kicked 54 goals across the regular season, but was held goalless in the Semi Final against Melbourne and was quiet the previous week against Richmond.

Lyon said the small forward simply got beaten by Neville Jetta on Friday night.

“He just wasn’t able to impose himself at all as their sort of talisman, kicked 50-odd goals for the year and Neville Jetta kept him scoreless and then I think he kicked one goal last week,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“He’d be absolutely disappointed.”

Watson was equally harsh on his performance.

“He had a wonderful season, but he would be bitterly disappointed with his two finals games,” Watson said.

“He was eclipsed in both of those games.”

Lyon added that Shaun Burgoyne’s poor finals series shows the toll a season can take on older players.

“Shaun Burgoyne, for one of the great finals performers we’ve ever seen, he’s an example of how good you are, when you get into your mid-30s, it’s damn hard to do it again,” Lyon said.
