Carlton captain puts car on the line

2018-09-17T13:30+10:00

Being captain of the Carlton Football Club comes with the perk of being able to afford a fairly decent motor and clearly, that’s the case for Marc Murphy.

So much so that second-year Carlton midfielder Zac Fisher made a bet with Murphy at the start of the year to get his hands on the skipper’s vehicle for a month.

All Fisher had to do was average a certain number of disposals and goals for the season and he’d get to use the captain’s Hyundai Santa Fe Elite.

Fisher was a shining light for the Blues this year, averaging 19 disposals and three clearances per game.

His speed on the outside and disposal by foot quickly made him one of Carlton’s most important midfielders.

“So, at the start of the year I approached Murph and said if I average 21 (disposals), I’ll get his car for a month,” Fisher told CarltonFC.com.au

The 20-year-old fell short of the disposal mark by two, but says he will see if Murphy’s willing to cut him a break.

“I’m going to push my case,” Fisher said.

“I didn’t average enough goals, but I’ll still try and get his car for a few weeks.”

Fisher’s season was cut short in Round 18 when he was tripped by Hawthorn’s Daniel Howe, resulting in a fractured fibula.

Howe was handed a three-game suspension for the incident.
