How getting dropped helped revitalise Bulldog Wallis

2018-09-20T08:28+10:00

Western Bulldogs midfielder Mitch Wallis has explained how a mid-season form dip helped him become a better player.

Wallis was dropped after the Bulldogs’ Round 9 defeat to Adelaide, something he was surprised at initially, but is now thankful for.

“I think it was a couple games in particular where he (Luke Beveridge) just wasn’t happy with what he deemed my strengths were,” Wallis told SEN Breakfast.

“I just found myself in the two’s and I was a little bit surprised myself but it’s the nature of footy.

“You end up in the two’s at times when you’re not doing your role.

“I had some strong conversations with Luke and the coaching staff midway through the year and I really wanted to get back in the side and show I was a part of the best 22 and take this club forward.

“They were strong, there was a fair bit publicised about it, but I’m glad I had them because I’ve come out the other end a better player and I think a better person.”

Wallis turned his back on free agency yesterday, re-committing to the Bulldogs for a further three years.
