Nose injury amplified concussion symptoms: Jacobs

2018-09-20T17:33+10:00

Re-signed North Melbourne midfielder Ben Jacobs says a nose injury he sustained earlier in the year amplified his concussion symptoms that ultimately prematurely ended his season.

Jacobs was ruled out indefinitely back in July after suffering a head knock in Round 11 against Brisbane.

“I got a lot of whiplash in the actual incident and I had a really sore neck that week,” Jacobs told SEN’s KB and The Doc.

“I was kind of thinking I might not get up for the next game with a sore neck, got through that, but kind of just filtered through and probably four weeks before that neck injury I copped a back knock to the nose.

“It kind of deviated my septum in my nose, and with that plus my neck it just brought on all these different feelings in my head, and as the neck subsided the nose started being the main driver.

“Seeing a nose surgeon, he thought he needed to do something and then we’ve kind of got to the bottom of it like that.

“It’s taken the 10 weeks unfortunately and that ruled me out for the year.”

Jacobs signed a two-year extension with the Roos, tying him to the club until the end of 2020.
