Magpies have the tools to defeat Tigers says Howe

2018-09-21T14:23+10:00

Collingwood defender Jeremy Howe has declared the Magpies have the tools to defeat Richmond in tonight’s Preliminary Final.

While acknowledging all of the elements the Tigers are elite in, Howe has confidence going into the clash, but understands a four-quarter effort is a necessity.

HOW MAGPIES CAN BEAT TIGERS IN PRELIMINARY FINAL

“I think with Richmond, they play a real consistent brand of footy that you know what you’re going to get coming up every single time you play them,” Howe told SEN Afternoons.

“It’s just a matter of how you can try and buffer that.

“Their pressure is very good, so is ours, but I think they like to play a game of momentum and keep the ball moving with a lot of knock-ons and taps and the ball just keeps going forward.

“With that, when you do win the ball, you’ve got a wave of numbers coming up in your face as well.

“The ability to try and get a first uncontested mark and buffer that goes a long way in being able to resist the pressure coming on.

“They’re a team that continually put pressure on for four quarters, they’re relentless in that.

“We feel like we have the tools to be able to buffer that, it’s just a matter of doing it for four quarters and not three and a half because that won’t get the result.”

When asked about if he can feel the atmosphere and anticipation ahead of the game, Howe jokingly said, “there is even a bloody countdown clock on Fox Footy”.
