Do the Pies need to consider this change for the Grand Final?

2018-09-24T07:29+10:00

Former Essendon captain Tim Watson believes Collingwod will have to weigh up making a change down back for the AFL Grand Final after Tyson Goldsack was dominated by Jack Riewoldt.

Goldsack, who has made a triumphant return from an ACL injury, conceded five goals to Riewoldt, and Watson said they have a decision to make.

“I think it’s going to be the biggest selection question that’s raised everywhere this week, whether they can afford to play Goldsack against either Josh Kennedy or Jack Darling,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.

“He played on Kennedy three weeks ago and Kennedy was still a little bit underdone. He’s now almost back to his best and he’s as sharp as he’s ever been.

“Goldsack in my mind has never been a key defender ever in his career, he’s been a good third man up.

“Do you at this point knowing that Darcy Moore is fit to play, Ben Reid is fit to play, would you consider making that move this weekend?”

Two-time Melbourne leading goal kicker Garry Lyon doesn’t believe they’ll make a change, saying they won’t try to fix something that isn’t broken.

“I think it’s something they’ll absolutely throw around and in the end I think they’ll come up with no change,” Lyon said.

“What they’ll say is, okay, Kennedy might get a hold of Goldsack, but Riewoldt kicked five goals and we won by 30 points.

“I think that’s the attitude they’ll take. Jack Riewoldt was absolutely superb.”
