Gold Coast chief shoots down Jack Martin talk

2018-09-25T18:50+10:00

Gold Coast Suns CEO Mark Evans has quashed trade rumours surrounding Jack Martin.

It emerged yesterday that Essendon were leading the race for Martin but according to Evans, the versatile 23-year-old is going nowhere anytime soon.

“Jack’s contracted, a good young player,” he said on SEN’s Time On.

“I can understand that others might ask the question, but we shut it down pretty quickly.

“He’s got a year on his current contract and we’ll look to extend that.”

Time On host Sam McClure asked: “So he won’t be going anywhere?”

To which Evans responded: “I wouldn’t have thought so.”

Evans also gave updates on Richmond pair, Corey Ellis and Anthony Miles, who are rumoured to be on their way to the Suns.

“I don’t think I should comment on that,” he added.

“The strategy is around getting good young players in the draft and supporting them with good character players from other clubs looking for opportunity.

“Those players certainly fit that bill. That will play out somewhere across the next three weeks.”

Regarding the future of Aaron Hall, who has been linked to North Melbourne, Evans spoke further.

“Aaron is a little different in that he’s out of contract,”

“It’s obviously preferred that he move on and we are in discussions with other clubs about that right now.

“I suspect they (North Melbourne) are (leading the way), but that’s probably more for Aaron and his team to give comment on.”
