Port Adelaide expect serious compensation for Wingard

2018-09-27T09:39+10:00

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley has hinted he feels Chad Wingard would be worth two first round picks, should he wish to leave the Power.

Wingard has been linked with a move to Victoria and Hinkley said he understands the situation the forward finds himself in.

“I’m grown up enough to know that (players meet with other clubs). Good management people will make sure the players get the information they need to get,” Hinkley told SEN’s Whateley.

“I don’t think it’s any secret that clubs and players meet, that’s just the way it is.”

The Power coach would be expecting serious compensation should Wingard leave.

“Chad’s an enormous talent. He’s not the type of player that you let out of your football club very easily,” Hinkley said.

“I suspect (Wingard’s) pretty valuable and if I go through what I’ve dealt with in the past with Paddy Ryder and Charlie Dixon, and we’ve given up first round picks and a second round pick and they’re the sort of numbers – two first round picks, but it’s not my decision, that’ll be made by the list management team.”

Hinkley revealed his club has been aiming to hit this draft hard for a while now.

“Our strategy all along has been to be in this draft really big and at the top end of the draft,” he said.

“We’ve got our own first round pick, we’ve got St Kilda’s second round pick, we’ve got Jared Polec who wants to join North Melbourne, we expect a first round pick, there’s no doubt about that.”
