Carlton meet with highly touted GWS youngster

2018-09-27T18:20+10:00

SEN Time On host Sam McClure has revealed that GWS youngster Will Setterfield met with Carlton today regarding a potential trade.

Setterfield, 20, was taken with pick five by the Giants in the 2016 National Draft and has played just two games for the club after suffering a serious knee injury early this year.

IS GWS FACING A SALARY CAP SQUEEZE?

“Carlton today met with GWS contracted youngster Will Setterfield,” McClure told The Match Committee.

“There is a belief that Setterfield is keen to move and that Carlton are leading (the race) for his services.

“Clearly Carlton are getting serious on the trade front. We know that Stephen Silvagni – their list boss – has a good relationship with a lot of people still at GWS.”

Hawthorn great Terry Wallace isn’t sure what the talented Giant is worth considering he has played such minimal football at senior level.

“He comes down from his lofty rankings, but how far down is the question?” Wallace said.

“I’d be thinking that the GWS would be sort of saying: ‘we want a back-ended first round pick’. I think Carlton will be saying: ‘we’ll supply you with a second round pick.’”

Carlton are also expected to meet with GWS star Dylan Shiel tomorrow.
