Watching Gawn v Kreuzer inspired Grundy to greater heights

2018-09-27T14:15+10:00

Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy says watching Melbourne’s Max Gawn and Carlton’s Matthew Kreuzer’s ruck duel earlier this season spurred him to greater heights.

Grundy’s rapid improvement saw him win his first All-Australian honour after a superb 2018 campaign, while cementing his status as one of the premier ruckmen in the competition.

The star Magpie is an ultra-competitive person and doesn’t settle for second best, not just with his football, but everything he does in life.

“I try and challenge myself in everything that I do," Grundy told SEN’s Time On.

“I hold myself to a high standard in everything that I do. I’m a competitive person, and the field that I want to end up in outside the game is really competitive as well.

“I can’t just be a dud at uni - ‘Ps get degrees’ - is not the motto I can afford to take.

“I think going to that game and watching Max Gawn v Matthew Kreuzer earlier in the year, that’s just an example of the lengths that I sort of go to (to improve).

“I’m a really competitive person and I compare myself against the best.

“I obviously respect the way those two players go about it, but to be here in the last week, it’s nice to get one up.”
