Likely number one pick a ready-made AFL player

2018-10-01T14:10+10:00

AFL Acadamy coach Luke Power believes promising young midfielder Sam Walsh has the right attributes to make an immediate impact at senior level.

Walsh has been tipped to be taken with the first pick at this year’s draft after outstanding performances for Vic Country at the Under 18 Championships, taking home the Larke Medal as the best and fairest player from the national carnival.

Brisbane great Power is excited about what the future holds for the 18-year-old at whatever club he ends up at next season.

“He’ll play straight away because he runs like an AFL player,” Power told NAB AFL Trade Radio.

“He’s aerobic capacity is really, really good which enables him to get to a lot of contests and out-number around the ball.

“If you look at the way that AFL footy is being played now, they’re pretty important attributes to be able to have.

“He’s also a really good decision maker and I’m sure he will do really well straight away.”

Carlton is likely to take Walsh with the coveted first pick at this year’s National Draft in November.
