Host of SEN’s Time On Sam McClure believes we will see a straight swap between North Melbourne and Sydney in the upcoming trade period.
“Nic Newman looks destined to join North Melbourne in what we believe is going to be a straight swap for Ryan Clarke,” McClure told NAB AFL Trade Radio.
“My understanding having made a few phone calls is Sydney is very, very keen on Ryan Clarke.
“He’s played 40 games, 19 of them this year and he was dropped once this year.
North Melbourne legend Brent Harvey explained what Clarke does best and why Newman will fit in well at the Roos.
“He’s an elite runner and a great repeat effort runner, probably the most vital part of running,” he said.
“His kicking needs a bit of work. What North Melbourne lack is a little bit of class coming off half back by foot.
“I think Nic Newman fits that bill.”
McClure also linked a big-name Tiger to North Melbourne.
“Brandon Ellis, we hear, today toured the facilities,” he said.
