Why May hasn’t committed to Suns long term

2018-10-03T09:02+10:00

Steven May’s manager has opened up on why the Gold Coast co-captain hasn’t committed to the Suns.

May has been linked with a move to Victoria, with Melbourne and Collingwood seemingly in the box seat to secure his services.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“No (he hasn’t told the Gold Coast Suns he wants out),” Alex McDonald told SEN Breakfast.

“Steven sat down with Dewy (Stuart Dew), Craig Cameron, Jon Haines at the end of the year as all players do with their review.

“The Suns were very keen to see where he sat long-term. As Steven is to, he wants to work through his long-term future.

“This time he couldn’t commit to them long term because he needed to explore what the future looked like for him and part of that was speaking to some clubs.

“He has done that, spoken to four clubs down here in Melbourne.

“It probably wasn’t what the Gold Coast would have preferred, they were keen for him to stay long term but they understand his position and the fact he was up front.

“They allowed that to happen, which is professional at their end.

“There is a fair bit to play out, he is contracted for next year and there’s a few hypotheticals that are being explored because to date, he hasn’t made any decision at all whether he wants to explore that or not.

“I would imagine over the next week or so, he will have all the information that he needs from the clubs he has been speaking to and Gold Coast, and he will be in a position to make a decision.”
