Has Shiel got a 1.4 million dollar resume?

2018-10-04T07:35+10:00

Garry Lyon has questioned whether or not Dylan Shiel has the CV that is worthy of a 1.4 million dollar offer.

It has been reported St Kilda is offering Shiel a deal that is around that lucrative amount, with Carlton and Hawthorn also chasing his services.

However, Lyon is wondering if you’d pay that much for the 25-year-old.

WILL THE SWANS MAKE A LATE CHARGE AT SHIEL?

“He has played 135 games in seven years, he has averaged 24 touches a game…the best judge of talent are the people at the clubs,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“They know intimately what is going on. You’re taking about 1.3-1.4 million, you have to talk about the money. You can’t ignore that and I know you got to pay overs to move them.

“Are you going to pay that for a bloke who finished seventh in the best and fairest in 2015, albeit over 14 games. Who finished sixth in a best and fairest and played 23 games in 2016, and fourth in the 2017 best and fairest.

“Is that a resume of a 1.4 million dollar player?”

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

Essendon champion Tim Watson described how Shiel’s character is one of high regard.

“You’re getting a super preparer and a professional,” Watson said.

“Somebody who is footy, footy, footy. He is not a drinker, not a party type.

“There has been some negativity around that, they say he is footy-nerdish, he is not really one of the boys.

“He is somebody who is solely focused on not only improving himself and getting the most out of himself, but he generally wants team success.

“If you get Dylan Shiel, that’s what you get.”
