Report: AFL to consider red card system

2018-10-03T12:54+10:00

The AFL is considering implementing a red card system for the 2019 season, according to AFL.com.au.

The report states the red cards will be used for “violent non-football actions”, with an in-game video referral system a possibility to help determine incidents worthy of a send-off.

It’s believed a sin bin could also be included, with players sent to the area while the incident is being assessed.

Another rule change the AFL is thinking about, according to the report, is a substitute player to replace players who have been forced out of the game due to a non-football act.
