Melbourne great Garry Lyon says an early first-round pick would be paying overs for Geelong star Tim Kelly.
Kelly has one year remaining on his contract with the Cats, but has been heavily linked with a move back to his native state of Western Australia.

With Fremantle potentially acquiring pick five from Brisbane in exchange for Lachie Neale - which could become pick six due to Gold Coast's compensation for the departing Tom Lynch - Lyon doesn’t believe the Dockers should part ways with that selection for the 24-year-old mature age sensation.
“Personally, I think that’s overs for Tim Kelly on the basis of one-year,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.
“What about this scenario if Geelong say you’re staying Tim, and then at the end of next year if everyone is so certain that you’re going home, we will deal with either Fremantle or West Coast and they put their best deal forward.”
SCOTT CONFIDENT OF KELLY SHORT-TERM STAY
Essendon great Tim Watson would be prepared to exchange a first round pick for Kelly.
”He’s only 24 years of age, we know that he can play AFL and he’s an elite midfielder," Watson said.
“At pick 6, you’re not guaranteed to pick up somebody of the equivalent of Tim Kelly.
“It wouldn’t be unreasonable.”
